Design... absolutely.

Daily driver?.... I’ll take my BRZ any day.

View attachment 1130615

Not that I wouldn’t love to take the 57s for a drive... preferably a long one through Europe.

Both cars make 200 horsepower the 57sc (supercharged variant) tops at 120 mph and my BRZ is good for 150 thereabouts. If I’m on Tail of the Dragon (318 turns in 11 miles of Appalachian roads) I wouldn’t want to be in the 57sc.

A 57sc has been valued st $40m. My BRZ is worth $15k on a good day

$40 million buys a lot of shoes... especially for kids in the third world.

15k buys a lot of shoes for starving kids too, but i doubt they'd want to eat them. Friend of mine in DFW has a 37 car collection (and growing). I'm willing to bet he donates more to charity in a year than 75% of this thread earns gross.

The brz is neat and all, but as much as Clarkson liked it, he bought a GTI. :hide:

Dublin Long Branches are a game changer, but a Dublin Mills would be too.

Dublin ages incredibly, those GMTO Branches are 4-5 years old and have only gotten better.

How many tux opportunities do you get?

1-2 a year. Not enough.

It's a beautiful shoe. I still never got why shell was supposed to be less formal, despite its regular shine.

Thanks for the info. At what point what a Park Avenue bow to a Carlyle (in black) for an event?

Yes I am referring to the Alden makeup, very astute :) I really like it but I just don't know if it's much different than my Parks in all 3 shell colors. I have other things that I really want in shell, but with the discontinuation I am intrigued and it has been brought up from the "bench" of my want list.

I feel as though a burgundy Carlyle (Alden) versus a burgundy Park serve nearly the same purpose. Again, I know we all have way too many shoes and probably crossover in many cases. Just trying to be a bit practical, if that is even allowed on these pages!

I completely agree. Some of the old Cary Grant/Stewart movies could step into the boardroom today and look better than most.

I'll find a used book store or antique store nearby and see what I can find on old men's clothes! I love places like that.

Bugatti is amazing. So much style, panache, and personality in yester-century's cars that we lack nowadays.

I’d say your parks are more versatile. Carlyle and Wholecut could be used interchangeably but you may want to avoid a wholecut in a business environment that is rigidly conservative where wholecut is perhaps a bit dandy for them.

Picked these shell Polos up off of eBay - they are rare in EEE width (they were special order in that width, I believe), so I’m glad to have them. Number on the inside leads me to believe these were made in ‘92 and the “FR” stamp on the bottom tells me they’re seconds.

The right shoe had some serious rolls and toe curling, but was in good shape otherwise. The previous owner brushed them a lot, and there didn’t seem to be any real scratches. I decided to use the @davidVC Dunking Method®️ for straightening out shoes.

First, I wiped them out with alcohol and did some UV sanitizing. The shell seemed to have no polish, so I went straight to soaking them. The toe of the right shoe REFUSED to soak in the water; the below pic was after 3 hours. I decided to take them out and let them dry, but there was a dark demarcation between the part that was soaked and the part that did not get soaked.

Back in the water they went. After the second dunking they became fully soaked, and were much better when they dried.

After drying for two days I did another UV treatment, then four rounds of Bick4 (plus a round of Bick4 on the inside) and finished with two rounds of Colonil Neutral cream. The pics don’t show, but the shell has that subtle mottled look that I really appreciate.
Edit: I also sanded the edges of the soles and applied new dressing.

They shined up nicely, and you can see the difference in color between the two shoes. The rolls straightened out a good deal and there isn’t any curling of the toes. The dark areas within the rolls lightened up, as well.

This shot really shows how red some older shell can get at certain angles. I look forward to wearing them soon.

Edit: Just did the math - these were manufactured 31 March of 1992, making them just shy of 27 years old.
Very cool - thanks for sharing. They look fantastic!

Find yerself in the DC area I'm sure we could find an embassy party to crash. :hide:

Update: there's a Monte Carlo night at the French Embassy at the end of April. Rare timing in that it's in between road trips for me....
