He didn't pay $200 for his jeans either.

Now, he actually bought something from J Crew. Why don't you just stop by their store and investigate the matter in person? Instead of, you know, doing arbitrary pictorial comparisons on the Interwebz? Stop being a dick.

IMO LVC's are good only for the raw/dry jeans. Their pre-fades look really fake. That's just me though.

I will stop by J Crew and check it out but the "pictorial comparisons" are pretty convincing, and sure i'll stop being a dick, it was simple misunderstanding

No problem, I probably didn't state things correctly. And if what J. Crew is picturing on their website is what those jeans really look like, then the pair I have are indisputably different. I was just showing there exists a pair that was sold at one of their retail stores which is very similar to LVC 1947s. Basically a one-wash version of the '47s. I was wrong, though, to insinuate that's what the website is describing.

So has anyone finalized the way to distinguish the new STF in the '47 cut besides going to the Levi's store? I guess I am a bit too cheap to pay $50 for STF that I could get for $30 at a department store.

I don't think the new STF's in the 47 cut has been released yet.

When did levis use dark thread on the back pocket arcs? I have a pair that are sort of slim with a slight flair and they're quite old.

Question for the Levis experts.

I don't like skinny jeans, but I'm sick of wearing boot cut crappy jeans. (despite having read this forum for 2 months now I've been waiting on updating the wardrobe). I want to buy straight leg jeans. Should I go for something like the Levi 514s or the 501s? Will the 501s make me look a bit older, or am I just wrong in thinking of them as an older person's jean?

Both good jeans. Personally, I like the 514 red tab raws (quality control on regular 514s is appalling and the fit is usually much slimmer). 501s are a classic that you can't go wrong with. And there is now a huge variety in this line (see above).
