Check out these Alden cordovan plain toes in cigar. Notice that unlike the standard plain toes they have a "toe-plate," or toe-piece construction. What do you guys think of them? I prefer the standard one-piece construction of the usual barrie last plain toe. These are aberdeen last. Somebody said these are dressier with the toe-plate? I was also told that this is not a standard Alden and must have been a custom order? Any info and opinions are appreciated.

It is likely that one last or the other will better fit your foot. This would be my main concern. Aesthetically speaking I like either shoe fine. I'd attribute the difference in formality to the storm welt and double sole of the Barrie PTB more than the pattern of the uppers.

imo I like this design better, it has better front-rear balance. But, they are practically identical to the regular PTB.
