OK - saw a pair of AE MacNeil's in my size today for $49.99. They are the black cobbler, not the cordovan.

The only black dress shoes I currently own are a pair of Park Avenues.

My other lace-ups are Park Avenues in brown, McCallister's in burgundy and Ashland's in tan. Also have a pair of Grayson's in brown.

So the question is, do I pull the trigger?

Any thoughts?

If they are new at that price, of course! If they are used, I suppose it would depend on condition. If they look barely used, why not? (I am not keen on used shoes, however.) If you see a use in your wardrobe for a black lace-up a notch or two less formal than the Park Avenue, these would fill the bill.

A black longwing is a good addition to any lineup. If they are new, I would certainly buy them

Even though it's corrected grain, it's a good quality corrected grain. I have a pair of CG Florsheim Kenmoors that look much better than the usual junky stuff and have held up well over the last few years. If you like them, get them.

Well, somebody beat me to the shoes.

There were a few other AE's, Chester's in black and Marlow in burgundy, but nothing exciting so I passed for now.

B&M - Nordstrom's Last Chance here in Phoenix. They are typically returns but very lightly worn.

Wouldn't the Chester in black have been awfully close? As I recall, it's a bal, not a blucher and it's not a longwing, but still not a lot of difference if you fancy a black wingtip. Or is the #3 last not too compatible with your feet. (It isn't with mine.)

The Chester was pretty close, but it did feel a little weird on my feet - probably the different last - and I just decided not to settle. No doubt another pair will show up eventually and I'll get some then.

The #3 last always felt a little weird on my feet too. I never bought any shoes on that last. Oh well, A-Es are kind of like girlfriends and busses--another one will be along shortly!

Does this come from personal experience?
