I recently lost weight (from 162 to145lbs), So my suit is really loose everywhere. (Ted Baker suit that was little loose to begin with)

Few Q's
1. Do you think I should have a tailor have it fitted more? (Is it possible to tailor it to a slim fit?)
2. I have pretty athletic build. I never had a suit altered before, so how much should I look to spend on this suit?
3. How much do tailors charge for fitting a new suit?
4. Also, I am in Southern California, any recommendations for tailors?

Info: Suit size: 40R
My stats: 5'7, around 145lbs, about 39/40 chest, 29/30 waist

I am kind of happy I lost weight but I have two other new suits that are the same size (Not altered). Thanks for the help, a lot of great information on here.

Ted Baker is unreserved RTW banality albeit expensive with a few gimmicks. It will not take kindly to being altered so start again - ad avoid TB.

I would just go ahead and get a new suit. It seems like the alterations would be a pretty big difference so you might as well just celebrate a new body with a new wardrobe.

If at all possible, you should probably get a new suit; maybe you could ask your tailor what it would cost and if he/she would recommend the alteration.

Go ahead and buy yourself a new one. If you ever gain that weight back again, you will still have your old suit to go to...

Take the old suit to a good tailor and have them tell you whether or not it would be feasible...buy a new suit as a reward for your loosing the weight.

I just had a suit tailored for less than $74.00.

Take a look at this thread for some tailor options...http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/f...ad.php?t=69501

If the chest and shoulder still fit well and do not look sloppy, have the jacket taken in. If doing that makes the proportion of shoulder/chest to you waist and seat look out of balance then it is not worth it. The trouser is another matter depending on how much smaller you need the waist to be. A good tailor will advise you.

Interesting stats there. I'm very similar in stature, athletic, same height, but I have a 38 chest and 29.5 waist. If you find something that works great for your build, post it here with pics.

Here's my build below, and I have a BIG problem finding stuff off the rack that fits both my shoulders and chest well.

Yes, didn't need to see that... that said, you have a seriously dropped left shoulder. No wonder you're having a hard time finding jackets that fit!
