Adding to my sleeve length by switching the french cuffs to regular cuffs???

I had 3 Jantzen shirts made awhile back, and unfortunately the french cuffs are about 1-1.5cm too short.

Anyways, I was wondering if it is possible to add a cm to the sleeve length by unfolding the french cuffs then having them cut and shortened, making it essentially a longer sleeve barrel cuff shirt.

Is this even possible? Any idea on how much it would cost? I am not interested in spending too much money on these since they are not very expensive shirts to begin with, but if I can do this cheaply I am all for it.

If anyone has a recommendation for a inexpensive NYC tailor for this job it would be much appreciated. Alternatively if there are other options for lengthening sleeves, I would love to hear them.

If Jantzen made them wrong they should fix it free of charge. I've had one of my shirtmakers just replace the cuffs with slightly longer cuffs from the same fabric. How long has it been since they were made?

unfortunately i have had them for a long time, i think they arrived in oct/nov 08. so yeah, its my fault for not getting in touch with them earlier. i will however say that for the 3 or 4 shirts i have gotten from them with regular cuffs they have been the correct length.

I have done it. It might looks slightly weird, but with two well positioned buttons in there you can totally pull it off.

I may be mistaken, but it sounds like Jantzen didn't 'make them wrong', and the OP instead forgot to factor in sleeve shrinkage.

If you are willing to share, I am curious as to how much this cost?

For about $25 sleeves can be lengthened from the shoulder.
the sleeve is removed. a strip of fabric is added to the top sleeve. the fabric does not have to match.
then the sleeve is reattached. 1/2" can be added this way.

there is a chance that there is fabric inside the cuff. hold the cuff up to the light. some shirtmakers leave as much as 3/4" inside. others nothing.

1cm is very little. You can ask your alteration tailor to simply cut a new hole on the inside portion of the French cuff 1cm closer to the wrist. It is very cheap and will solve your problem. You don't need a good tailor for this - I'd think a basic dry cleaner/alteration guy would work fine.

Carl: Do you do this or do you have someone in the area you can recommend? I have some shirts that are now a touch short (combination of ordering too short and shrinking) that are some of my favorites and i hate to part with them.

Thanks,

I thought about this, but the current cuff folds up right to the edge. On another note, I never understood why shirtmakes don't put 2 holes on the inside portion for the cuff to begin with...i can't think of any downside and all it would do is allow for slight adjustment if needed. I found this feature on only one of my ready-wear shirts.
