i'm curious to know if anyone has experience with this. a couple of people i know swear by it, but i went today and didn't feel a thing, for better or worse. i have a muscle injury and am hoping to avoid going to a regular doctor.

i tried it once too, didn't do much for me either. however, 'they' say it's the kind of thing you're supposed to do a repeated number of times, before any effect takes place.

of course by that time your wallet is much lighter, so that pain in your back is going to be relieved that much more.

i would recommend finding a good massage therapist - a licensed one, who knows deep tissue massage at the very least, and maybe has a specialty in sports injuries. (no college dropout kid who practices 'swedish massage'.) another alternative is an acupressurist, though i have no experience with them.

Beware: acupuncture is a treatment, not a cure. We are never meant to inject [or pin prick] the body. More on this later.

I agree that acupuncture is best looked at as a treatment instead of a cure. That having been said, it does work wonders on muscles, especially sprains.

Acupuncture is very well-known here, but as with all things medicine, your results may vary.

I had a bad sprained ankle once, and it took me three treatments spread over a week and a half to get it out. Not bad.

thank you for the replies. my injury is healing well on it's own. in a couple of more weeks i should be 100%. i'm considering going in for a massage though. the older men in my family make it a regular practice to get a massage every couple of weeks, but for some reason i've never bothered to try it. (i mean a real massage, not the "happy ending" variety.)

I've never had acupuncture, and don't know anything about how it works, but if five days after your treatment you find that your injury is healing "on its own", perhaps it did have some effect?

impossible to tell without doing a controlled test. it is a fact that the body naturally heals, so chances are good that's what happened.
