i prefer 5 x 5 in escalating reps, otherwise why not just do cluster reps?

What are cluster reps?

The answer likely is that making 5x5 more complex implies a more advanced lifter. The average asshole, such as myself, grabbing a barbell for the first time is best off KISSing it (keep it simple, stupid).

it is based on rest-pause and is supposed to increase motor unit recruitment. basically, do 5 reps at 85% of 1rm, rest 15-20 second, then do it again.

I prefer straight sets with longer rest, but I started with SS so thats just what feels better for me.

Hmm, sounds fun. It sounds nice because it would be quick. If I'm not mistaken, you have said in the past that you do all your sets pretty close to back to back, is that right?

I've stagnated enough, maybe I'll drop my weight a touch and speed things up.

Bill Starr/Madcow is the ramped version and prety popular. It has worked for me to get my squat to 295 x 5 about 10 minutes ago.
