I'm still somewhat of a noob when it comes to shoes, but as I learn more and more about shoe construction here, it seems what makes a shoe "sleeker" looking is a 270 degree welt versus a 360 degree welt, which for instance is found on a lot of Allen Edmonds shoes.

But I own a pair of AE Strands, which are 360-degree welted, and a pair of AE Lombards, which are 270 degree-welted, but I'm still not sure how one is sleeker than the other? What should I be looking at?

Can someone explain to me how a 270-degree welt makes a shoe sleeker? Maybe provide some pictures comparing the two types of welts? Or is it something not communicable via pictures?

I mean, here is a pictorial reference to two 'high end' shoes with a 360 degree and 270 degree welt, respectively:

The EG Dover with a 360 degree welt:

Then the Corthay Arca with a 270:

Not the best examples, but they are the only two pictures I can find with a side shot, and the side shot is definitely where the 360 welt is the most noticeable. As you can see, however the 360 degree welt really does not make too much of a difference to the shoe's sleekness (although it most certainly is a clunkier shoe). When tastefully done, it is not as obnoxious as the welt on Allen Edmonds and shoes of that ilk.
