I'm on business in Seattle for 24 hrs, staying smack in downtown, have a vehicle available. I need some help from the locals...
-- bar/club: What's a cool bar/club to meet/BS with people? I'm traveling by myself;
-- shopping: Any areas similar to NYC's SoHo? Any stores to check out?
-- general: Any other advise to kill time is appreciated. I'll have a lot of downtime.

Thanks!

Downtown: The Alibi Room, The Whiskey Bar, The Apartment, Lava Lounge, Rendezvous, and many others... the key is to just wander around 1st and 2nd north of Pike, see if you like anything, there's something for everyone depending on your taste. If you're looking for larger crowds, head to Capitol Hill or Pioneer Square. I prefer Capitol Hill - places such as Neumos, The Comet, Cha Cha Lounge, The War Room, Linda's, and The Canterbury Arms [on 15th] are all great spots...

Nothing similar to SoHo, so to speak. Seattle is just not on-par with NYC, although there is some ok shopping at Marios. If you're looking for edgy stuff, head down to Belltown, on 1st Ave north of Pike for some smaller boutiques that sometimes have some surprisingly cool stuff. If you're just looking for high-end fashion, Mario's is the spot.

I can definitely help there... there is just about no place in the world better to kill some time than Shorty's on 2nd & Blanchard. It's a cool little pinball pub with some truly awesome vintage pinball machines kept in perfect condition by the owner (Avout, a cool Viking dude) and Seattle's most liberal bartender - the great Theresa. She is a demon with a bottle. Order a Bushmills and Coke, and you will get a tumbler full of Bushmills with a splash of Coke on the top. Fantastico! And they also have the "pink slushees" - which is basically a Slurpee with Bacardi 151 in it, and is quite possibly the most potent drink available in Seattle (and is cheap). One Pink Slushee and you will be grinning sheepishly on your way to score some Berluti's at Mario's. Heh heh.
