Inspiration

The theme of this Friday Challenge is Inspiration and the idea is simple - post your outfit together with a picture of what inspired it and give a little explanation as to how the person or thing you were influenced by has inspired your outfit.

Your inspiration could be a person, movie, painting or anything else, really but you need to write a little about how the inspiration translates to your outfit. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

The usual rules: apply:
1) Have fun!
2) Outfits must fit the basic premise of a CM fit i.e shirt, tie, suit/sc, trousers and proper shoes/boots. PS's are optional.
3) Post a picture of your outfit and the inspiration with a sentence or two (or three) about what inspired your outfit.
4) One entry per person - if you submit more than one entry, you must nominate one as your final submission

Submissions must be posted by 2300hrs AEST Saturday 24th January 2015. All submissions are to have been worn week beginning 18th January 2015. The poll will go up directly on Saturday evening GMT and close on Monday 26th January 2015. For the summary post, I will use only one picture per entrant and will therefore choose your first offering.
Examples could be anything ranging from:
  • Full DTO:

To
  • Using some of the elements:

To outfits inspired by something other than menswear.

The inspiration:

Why I'm inspired:
I take a lot of inspiration from the dress sense of Alan See of The Armoury, one of the greatest menswear stores in the world. The colour and texture combinations of his outfits appeal to me tremendously and seeing the photo above gave me a great appreciation for the appeal of an orange tie with a navy suit. What I have noticed is that his outfits tend to be muted on the whole but there is always a point of distinction. This results in some very tasteful combinations that stand out without being loud. This subtlety appeals to me and this is what I usually aim for with the outfits that I wear.

Inspired by user Nick Pollica. I like how Antonio makes everything look so comfortable and easy, yet refined at the same time. He never lets the clothes wear him and somehow looks more comfortable in suits than a man wearing sweats. I like to see the different pieces he mixes as well. For this fit I tried mixing some things I wouldn't normally wear together (the Eidos field jacket I just snagged off B&S sure helped the situation).

Well this is convenient. Though Braddock went with an even patterned shirt and an odd woven tie and I went with an odd patterened shirt and an even woven tie.

As I've remarked elsewhere, one can almost always recognize Claghorn just from the tie knot and its relation to the shirt: the shirt geometry is such that when he cinches up the tie the result is "negative tie space"—the two sides of the collar actually overlap.

No way the first photo could be Claghorn (unless he was purposefully altering his habits so as to deceive). There are other Claghorn-characteristics of the knot and its relation to the shirt apart from the one mentioned here.

That would be a fun game: try to identify frequent posters just by photos of their ties and knots.

Cheers,

Ac

Of course what distinguishes this challenge from the most recent DTO is that the source of inspiration could be any photo, not just something of a fellow forumite. I'd love to see some inspired by older photos or fashion plates. Wish I could participate, but this week's too busy, I fear.

I will follow with great interest, however.

Cheers,

Ac
