Unfortunately, Loakes come in one width, however, I don't think width can help too much with his high instep. My Loake Shoemaker Comfort Tweed is G fitting, but the gap is still present as my other F fitting shoes. I will post photoes when I wear that pair tomorrow.

I also have a low instep; what last would you recommend?

sorry, I only have the capital last, and 026 last, and I don't have a particular low instep either.

Hey guys, how does Loake sizing work when converting to US sizing? Is it like C&J (7.5Uk/8.5US) or EG (7.5UK/8US)?

Like C&J - depending on the last you may have issues with the vamp.

Can't say much about the instep, but the Swing last is very "generous".
I have the Asquith saddle shoes on that last and they are roomy. Best advice is to go down a half size from normal.

My wife bought me a pair of burgundy Herring double monks for Christmas, but unfortunately got the size a bit wrong. A half size too big so they have to go back. Not really crazy about double monks anyway so wanted to exchange them for something else, while staying with the burgundy colour. Narrowed it dow to two pairs of shoes, the Loake Strand, (on the Capital last), and the Herring Richmond brogue, (made by Loake on the 026 last).

Keep changing my mind which one to get.
Any opinions for the Loake fan club?

Definately the Strand! Personally I like the 026 last better than the Capital, but the Adelaide is a beauty

After seeing all the photos of Strands, I think I'll definitely be getting a pair. Can anyone comment on the dark brown color? I'd like to get them in a dark brown, but most of the photos I've seen are of the burgundy, and I've seen other photos elsewhere of Strands in a brown that looks much lighter than the Burgundy. Is what Pediwear calls "Mahogany Burnished Calf" the same color as "Dark Brown" listed on Loake's website (and Herring doesn't even list a brown color)? I'm not so good at matching up Wurger's photos with the colors listed on Pediwear/Loake's sites due to their photos/lighting being quite different. Thanks for anyone's input.

Good choice on the Strands. I'm getting the burgundy ones from Pediwear. They've been very helpful also. Have you asked them about the colors? Maybe they could take a photo.

Ordered them online from a uk site as brown (but the picture looked like very dark brown), the box says brown, the shoes are IMHO medium brown at best

marcodalondra, thanks for photo! I just went through this entire thread, and I don't know how I missed that post. They look quite a bit lighter than I'd expected or hoped for. I might have to go for the Burgundy since I'd like a darker shoe. But I'm still building a basic shoe wardrobe and I'm lacking dark brown dress shoes. I have a preference for semi-brogues, and I was hoping the Strand would fit the bill. But if not, any suggestions from experience regarding similar styles that actually come in a dark brown?

this pictures of the Savoy shows the Mahogany in the background, black in the middle and I guess the same brown as my Strand in the front
