Roll Necks, Turtle Necks, Polo Necks call them what you like.

I went looking for a heavy Naval sweater and did not find one I liked but did come across a thin merino one which I started to wear with smart casual at Christmas. I liked it so much I bought a couple more. I wonder why the roll neck with sports jacket (as Bullitt) ever went out of fashion.

Couldn't agree with you more Culver.

I think it's a great look that deserves a revival.

Roll neck thread, yes!

SNS Herning makes nice heavy ones (on the left), and a washed merino by Boglioli:

Most of the turtleneck mentions are usually constrained to thick, knit ones in dark colors.
What is the verdict on a light-colored or white thin cotton turtlenecks worn instead of a shirt?

The ones I bought were from Paul Smith (sale shop) in dark olive and Muji in plum and navy. They were merino in the case of PS and wool mix in the case of Muji but were all fairly thin to be worn in place of a shirt under a jacket rather than the sturdy North Sea Clothing type which I had originally been looking for.

I used to wear white ones in the sixties but perhaps not yet this time round.

I wonder if their revival in the UK has something to do with Bradley Wiggins's Mod style I notice Rapha now do a cycling version,.

I don't know about that.

Here's a very nice roll neck-with-suit look from RJE:

While I don't like the jeans (don't like and won't wear jeans - period!) NOBD shows how well the roll-neck loooks with a sports jacket. Well worth trying.
