Am I tailor whoring?

So I recently started to rebuild my mid 90's suit, sportcoat, shirt & trouser wardrobe as I have changed professions (from casual to needing nice suits, etc.). I have a tough "off the rack" build (tall & slim) as I am a bit picky about fit & finish. So, at the suggestion of my tailor (never had a bespoke suit before) and common sense, I had a suit, several shirts and a sportcoat made and am ready for my next suit, etc.

I love the suit & sportcoat as well as the service, but the more I read up on styling, fit, etc. the more I want to push in a certain direction for style. My issue is my tailor is more of the English/SV styling, and I prefer a blend of sleek, crisp & sharp on top of some traditional queues. The tailor tends to favor traditional. We have a great rapport and as I learn more about what "exactly" it is I want from a hand made garment, I can push the appropriate suggestions.

In the meantime, I was thinking about setting up an appt. w/WW Chan when he is here in San Francisco in a week or so. Chan would be cheaper, but the money is not the factor. I have heard great things about his work and from what I have seen he seems to be more adept to my kind of "developing" style.

Am I tailor whoring and is that "bad thing" to retain a travelling tailor when I have a local tailor? Anyone use Chan w/out visiting HK?

Lots of Chaniacs around here, generally very good feedback and very highly regarded in these parts.

No, there is no problem with changing tailors if you not completely happy with the outcome last time. Youre the customer after all.

Do bear in mind though that very few First-Suit-With-This-Tailor efforts come out perfectly, and you are likely to need to play around with whatever Chan presents to you as a first effort too...and with a local tailor who speaks the same language as you, this is much easier than it is with a visiting guy who swings through twice a year.

I'm not sure but it seems like you're pretty happy with your current tailor and if they are receptive to your suggestions then why not try to "mold" them into what you want. Personal rapport goes a long way with me...especially with something that is so personal.

Otherwise I'd say "No"...you are the customer.
