The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Thank you! As it happens I'm going to be going to Garsington from Oxford, which I hadn't mentioned because I wasn't thinking of hiring formal wear, and I'm arriving there the day before the opera. I guess I like to make things difficult for myself....

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I posted this in Ask Andy but nobody has been able to help: I'm an appellate lawyer and academic, and I have never needed a tux; although I'm generally among the most formally dressed people at the events we go to they're not super formal (and that bar is low anyway). I'm giving a paper this...

I had my tailor take it in a bit and I think the improvement is really substantial.

Anyone have any of the numerous navy hopsack double-breasted blazers in 38S contemporary?

    Scarf Opinions and Key Elements

Drakes. If you can't afford them (and who can?) some nice less expensive scarves in cashmere/modal just dropped at ehaberdasher. I'm also fond of the cashmere and wool-cashmere blend scarves, all ethically produced, from Shelly Snow, whose Toronto business is called "She sells sanctuary."

SPIER & MACKAY STONE (TAN) COVERT TWILL , VBC, HIGH RISE TROUSERS

Thanks. But it's not right for me--I was hoping for the darker tan, alas.

SPIER & MACKAY STONE (TAN) COVERT TWILL , VBC, HIGH RISE TROUSERS

I'm confused. Do you have a pair in tan? Or is the "tan" pair actually stone? Feel free to DM me, too.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I'm curious about the proper classification for this 300 gsm wool that was identified as "worsted twill" on the Lopez Aragon site; it's rough and water-repellent (at least in a light shower); is it a species of whipcord or covert? It's actually navy but since my interest is in identifying the...

I overpriced these ridiculously. $30 plus postage each. Or make an offer.

The Unofficial Spier & Mackay B-S-T Thread

Four past-season M merino sweaters, unworn. Two v-necks, which I thought I'd try but didn't wear because I found out I was an unregenerate crew neck person, and two turtlenecks in colors I can't really use with the jackets that would go over them. Asking $50 each plus postage, which gives you a...

    Casual knit sport coat?

I would have suggested a knit Teba if you hadn't said that! (E.g., https://lopezaragon1976.store/collections/teba-siena-knit) I prefer woven ones, in wool or linen, but they're easily the most adaptable semi-casual jacket out there.

Agree on Pedemeia; excellent value for money.

SPIER & MACKAY - Official Affiliate Thread

I already have the navy teba but got the olive when it was on heavy sale, and am very pleased. It's darker than the website photos and much darker than these images, but I prefer that. I've been using one of the extra buttons so I can close these at the throat, which is a standard way of wearing...

SPIER & MACKAY - Official Affiliate Thread

If you're still on the fence about the excellent and multipurpose tebas they're on sale right now for a hair over US$100. (https://www.spierandmackay.com/Product/search?search=teba) Its an unbeatable price and considering how terribly they've sold I'd imagine we'll never see them again. I wear...

I wear the navy all the time, even when doing some light hiking. It's a great piece and I, too, wonder why nobody else seems to be buying one.
