Another way to do it is to have then shorten the sleeve from the bottom and fix the sleave so that there is the that seam that you expect around the buttons. Can shoe polish go bad?
Do you think lexol or meltonian leather lotion go bad? I just found my old shoe polishing stuff and trying to see what I can keep and what I can't.
