    I got my Alden 990 thrifted shoes back from the cobbler. He resoled them and installed metal eyelets on the inside for the laces. I'm happy with the results!

    Final polish on the Alden 990 shoes - I had trouble with the the left shoe (on the right in photo) with the 'tiger stripes' - I worked at it for a while w/ Renomat but was afraid to damage the leather, so I stopped after a few rounds. Still, not a bad end product for the $7.99 thrift. Probably...

    They're Alden 990s.... color is significantly lighter due to all the cleaning. I'll use some Saphir cordovan cream to bring them back to their original color #8. Here's what they looked like after the initial cleaning.

    I've been working at cleaning out those gritty rolls on in creases of the shell Aldens I picked up. Lots of work, finally broke down and used some renomat. You can see the progress here... big difference.

    Cheap thrift store find - Alden Shell Cordovan 8.5 E. Other heel reads "Tom Austin Biltmore Hotel" - so I think this was a specialty shoe store at one point.
