I've found a source for made in Italy 3 button Zegna suits for $699. I think that is a really good deal. Here's my dilemma. I wear size 39R and they are only available in even sizes. Obviously, it will have to be tailored but should I go with a 40 or a 38?

it all depend how 38 and 40 fits. 1st thing you should look out for is shoulder fit. if your shoulder bulges out when wearing 38, then go with 40. then look at chest, under arm and back etc ... Do not worry about pants .. Tailors can easly fix the pants.. go with proper jacket fitting.

Make sure that these aren't the "Zegna fabric" suits that aren't made by Zegna at all. If you are buying from eclass229 on Ebay, then those are the real deal and not a bad price at that.

Zegna's a pretty boxy, but the shoulders actually run narrower than than the measurement would indicate (don't know why, but they just do). I'd probably go with the 40 and get a tailor to pinch the waist and hips in on the jacket. A 38 might be too tight and you may grow out of it as well -- eventually you'll move up to 40, I guarantee it.

I don't think $699 is a particularly good price for Zegna, as Zegna sells their suits brand new at their outlet for about $480.

Got a link to the add? That price can be good or.... a deal that you should get dinner and a movie out of depending on who/how made.

Is that $480-ish price for the Z/Soft lines, or the "regular" line?

The regular line. They were 60% off retail ($1500+) and then an additional $120 off anything over $500 (coupon from outlet center)

That's pretty good pricing. I was curious because I always see regular line Zegnas on Bluefly for $800-1000 and it never sounds like a good deal at that price point.

Yeah, it is at the Zegna outlet in Cabazon. I am going there this weekend so I'll post if they still have the deal.

The $699 is for a regular label Zegna. You can't beat the $480.00 price you mentioned but $699 is very fair for a top quality suit. I certainly can't find anthing lower than that in Manhattan.

Pfunk, where are you finding these goods? Century 21? Just curious if it's worth a stop there next time I'm in NYC.

Century 21 is always worth a stop. Last time I was in, I got a Brioni 3/4 leather trench for $400.....

If you go at Zegna outlet near milano you can pay a zegna 300€

- even better we have nice tailors that make a bespoke suite with english fabric at 700€ just out of Milan. Anyway, in Italy we don't have even sizes, make sure the size is correcly translated in the US size.

Feeling very pleased with myself
Picked up a Zegna and a Bolgheri suit, very little wear, both fitting perfectly, at a local op shop (thrift store) for $A25 each.
