Why do people choose to avoid alcohol other than medical reasons?

The story of how you honestly know that liquor tastes like crap is not one I want to hear.

Actually, we've been drinking PBR because it was cheap for years. That the hipsters co-opted it is a bit unfortunate. I was at a hipster bar in Portland once and they were so ******* hip, they didn't serve PBR. They served Hamm's instead. God, that **** is awful. I can honestly say I enjoy the taste of PBR for what it is, but Hamm's.. Gaaah.

Haven't had a drink in a couple months.
Not sure exactly why but a recurring concern that comes to mind is how I'll feel when I wake up the following morning.

My biggest reason is that I am an amateur bodybuilder. But if I put that aside, I still don't like to drink too often. I really like being a clear-thinker. I get extremely foggy and way too relaxed when I drink. I also hate hangovers with a passion, and it usually takes me a couple days to recover after a heavy night of drinking. Last but not least, I'm a cheapskate. I hate spending money.

I'm 19 and don't drink or do any drugs and never have. I would say almost all of my friends do. At first it really effected our relationships, but now there is no weirdness. I would say that my friends consider me a better friend then other kids who will drink with them. I never drank or did any drugs because I never really felt a desire to. I've asked this question to myself a lot and the only thing that I could come up with for a possible subconscious reason is because my mothers father was an alcoholic and squandered all of their money and could get pretty physical.

Maybe the under lying thing is just fear of not being in control of myself, I've also seen drugs and alcohol ruin a lot of peoples lives or cause them to do stuff they really regret. Maybe just the potential to became an alocholic/ drug addict scares me too much?

Who knows, just sort of thinking while I'm typing...

ok, after having 3 friends separate from each other comment on my drinking habits I decided that I do need to slow it down a bit. No more drinking at home for at least a month...

i drink because thats what you do at parties here, not that i necessarily enjoy being drunk. it is also the only socially accepted way to get fucked up with the people i am generally around.

i really really dislike the hangover, i like to think im hypersensative to it cuz it get me for days on end. some days i can have 5-6 beers in an hour or two and feel nothing the next day, and others i can have 3 beers in the same timeframe and feel like dick for several hours. If i get stupid-drunk its like a few days.
