After years of thinking that I will find the "one" bag, I realise like shoes, shirts, watches & you know the drift..

Does not exist, buy use, & will always find something right but then there is something wrong as well.. So the hunt continues.

What I have found is that I have different bags for different outings & then it depends on my mood & what I am wearing..

I looked for years and finally settled on a tan leather bag I found at a leather shop in Florence. Construction is good compared to most of the garbage there and has held up fairly well.

Well, I'm partial to leather bags, and I quite like small- to moderately-sized doctor's bags (for a day or weekend bag). I also prefer to have the handles close to the bag, rather than longer handles (like the kind on women's bags) or a shoulder strap. Here's a very nice doctor's bag for an excellent price. The smaller one at 15" x 11" x 8" (and a very reasonable $69.95) would suit me best:

On the other hand, these ciabattas from Floto Imports (they're on eBay from time to time or can be bought direct), 14" x 9" x 8" (and thus smaller than they look in the pictures), for $200, are soft leather (not like a hard-sided doctor's bag) and attractive:

Here are a couple of slightly larger bags from Leathershop.it (who have some lovely Italian leather bags):

And finally, another very nice Italian leather shop, The European Store, that has lots of wonderful bags, including these two beauties--a smaller doctor's bag (at about 14" x 8.25" x 7") and a duffle bag (15.25" x 6.25" x 11"). I have their larger travel bag, the 'Oslo', and the soft Italian leather is particularly nice. Be sure to check out all their bags and those from Leathershop.it:

I bought a Fossil messenger bag and I love it. It looks very casual because it's a brown leather bag, but I still use it when I'm wearing dark suits. I don't care, I love it.

Depending on your budget, obviously living in NYC would present almost limitless possibilities at all price levels. Online, you can always try bluefly, or the Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf websites, eluxury, etc. Here are a few possibilities I found in a cursory internet search (the first is from the LV website, the other two on bluefly): Epi sac plat:

Hermes "Victoria:"

Ah, dang, sorry - I have little information about it. It's probably 1950s, and was givrn to me by an acquaintance when we handled his late uncle's estate. (The uncle was a high-end antiques dealer, so there were quite a few goodies of the same sort. I still have a few Jermyn St shirts and a couple of Burberry macs from him.) Another pic; M@t; did you try to have one made in VN?
