My friend, you will probably find that the members of the most popular brand forum at TZ will disagree with your assumption. I believe I am not required to tell you which one is the most popular brand forum at TZ. My opinion is that it is also not true with the general public, which either hates Rolex or loves them (for various reasons); without knowing much else. Nothing to do with being new to watches. Personally, I'd take an Oyster Rolex over an IWC or Panerai every time. Having said that, what an interesting dilemma to be in, if it is between a Prince and a Reverso.

I'm well aware that Rolex is the most popular brand forum at TZ. I might ask ... what does that say? To me ... well ... not much more than the fact that there are a whole heckova lot of Rolex watches out there ... perhaps more than all other fine watches combined for all I know.

No ... it's no big suprise that Rolex is so popular; for ever 1 watch sold by a truly fine watch brand ... Rolex sells 25 or more ... for reasons having little to do with quality of product.

To paraphrase a popular saying from my teens ...
Rolex puts out like a coke machine.

The reason I don't lurk on TZ. Too few pr0n pics of the rare and the obscure. PuristsPro is where it's at. There, even the AHCI/Independent makers' forum gets as much activity as the Rolex forum.

Sorry about the quality of the picture ... I'm not accustomed to taking close-ups of small objects. For that reason I'll include a professional photo of the Breguet Type XX Transatlantique.

The Breguet is the one on the metal bracelet ... the IWC is above and to the left ... on the brown alligator. Also included to fill up space are three JLCs, a Vacheron, & a copy of The Tailor of Gloucester (an avatar I have sometimes used here).

Below is the watch on the type band I prefer.
