I told mine I ain't gettin her anything. But I got her a nice big boxful of things including a donation to the David sheldrick wildlife trust in her name. She's a big fan of baby elephants and I sponsored a baby orphan for her (whole herd was poached except for the orphan). Also going to a nice early dinner at marea. Should be good

I plan on getting Jamie a book of home-made coupons (1 Hour of Oral, 1 Dinner with her Family, those kinds of things).

I actually know quite a bit about soju. For example, the base grains make a real difference to the quality. You know what I'm saying? Different grains, different quality.

Then you would know that it isn't always made from grain (cultivated cereal crop).

It pisses me off that soju and sake are marked up so much in America.

$13 for a bottle of soju that normally costs 3 bucks in Korea?

**** that noise!

Sake "酒", (also pronounced "shu") means "liquor" or "alcohol", I guess you are referring to "nihonshu". Also $3 for a bottle of soju is a rip off considering it tastes like fermented **** mixed with every poison known to man and beast.

Who ******* cares? Ain't you a high roller? I never even look at a check before I throw my card and I'm blue collar as **** (and probably make more money :) )

I spend my money according to personal perceived value.

I don't value soju at those prices, especially since I know it's a very cheap type of liquor that's marked up insanely high here -- higher than other types of liquor are.

I'm more lenient in terms of price when it comes to sake, cause you can actually discern the quality and taste based on brand. With soju? Not so much.

All the more reason not to drink that awful stuff. (Soju that is. I like sake.)

I'm pretty ambivalent about soju -- for the most part, I enjoy how easy it is to down. It sneaks up on you, too, so people get easily trashed because they don't think it's as high proof as it really is.

I like sake a bit more than soju, but both aren't the types of alcohol I ever actively seek out. Tonight just happens to be a night where my buddies want to meet up at a Korean restaurant and I was browsing their menu.

$13!?!

Oh yeah, I forgot, this is NYC we're talking about :satisfied:.
You could easily pay $13 a bottle at a restaurant in Tokyo. $5 a glass is about standard. It's pretty cheap in stores though.

I'm used to seeing it at $8 a bottle, but again, this is NYC so there's that.

I've heard of sojus that are fermented with potatoes / sweet potatoes. Never had any of that so I'm curious to try it.

Imoshochu, made from sweet potato, is possibly the worst thing ever. It should be renamed Evilshochu. They also make the **** from tapioca, but what can you expect from a country whose national dish is pickled cabbage?

"it isn't always made from grain" Basically it's made from any **** that will ferment, it is on par with bathtub gin, and pruno.

That's the problem! She says they don't really know(or won't say). All she said is that she got tested and she showed up with too many white blood cells and they gave her antibiotics and told her to inform the poor bastards(me).

Drinking till i pass out tonight.

Doesn't that kind of sound like an HPV strain? I think that requires a second round of testing to identify and doctors are usually tight lipped about it to avoid freaking people out (since basically everyone gets it at some point).
