$650 is a lot to spend on something you're "not sure" about. Don't know much about your economic situation, but if I were you I would rather get something else purely based on the fact that I'm on the fence about the item in the first place.

As for the coat, I could see it looking good layered, but that's about it

Xhale, the JohnVarv coat lacks shape. Which is understandable since it's basically an overcoat to be worn in the rain. Also, looks like it would only flatter suits and/or dressier getups, which I can't imagine you donning every day. I'd return.
