These arrived from Cleverley's today, midnight blue with burgundy, something a little funky.

I have to say that side gussets are really growing on me

I really like the burgundy faux lacing and the medallion is unique

Just curious...how come you opted for no leather facings on the side gussetting?

I just opted to keep it as per the sample shoe, its not one I came up with myself. I have the leather facing on my other side gussets (G&G and Clev) so thought I would leave it off this one. I really don't mind it like this

More details on these, please.
As far as I can tell, they are either reindeer or Russia calf, from G. J. Cleverley or W.S. Foster.
Am I close?
FYI shoefan makes the shoes himself. Do a search and I think you will find almost a dozen prior projects.

Yes, you are close. They are made from Edelman 'Russian' calf, which is purportedly tanned in the same fashion as the Cleverley Meta Catharina leather. You can see that the leather 'pulled up light,' that is it is lighter in color where it was stretched. It actually looks kind of interesting in person, though I am of a mixed mind about it. Edelman is a supplier of upholstery leather, so this leather is not intended for shoemaking, hence it was a bit of an experiment to try it. OTOH, the Cleverley Russian leather was actually bookbinding leather, so it's not like the original is so great for shoes.

I have used a different Edelman leather, "Luxe Calf," for a few previous pairs, and that leather is quite nice, so I decided to take a flier on this stuff.

Here is the Edelman website about the leather: http://www.edelmanleather.com/produ...russian-leather-antiqued-vintage-1786-colors/

Wow...

I'm impressed.

Thanks for the info.
I'll keep an eye out for those others.

Here is the post on this most recent pair:

In each post there is a link to the preceding pair, so you can go backwards through most of my efforts. The earliest posts were lost in one system crash/upgrade or another.

Interesting that you have access to Edelman leathers. I work in the interior design business and use lots of their leathers on our projects. But they don't normally sell to individuals without a commercial account, a reseller tax ID number, etc. etc.

It's first rate goods as far as upholstery leathers are concerned. But they are selected and tanned specifically for a nice soft 'hand', not so much for the resiliency and ability to hold a shape as shoe leathers are intended to do. And many of them are surface treated to protect from spills. I would think those would be potentially difficult to last as well. (But what do I know).

Very interesting.

Your hobby intriques me greatly. And I am amazed at your accomplishments thus far.
