Hi Sysdoc,

Wow, can't believe you've got the new Ecton! I really like these, and the lack of heel counter makes them even greater than the Dover!

Yes, the laces are too long!
Hehe! EG must have used the normal Dover laces! Terrible indeed!

Lionel, the Ecton has got a heel counter, but a very sexy one. I think that this shoe is in fact prettier than JL's Portman, but that's partly because I just prefer the EG-typical narrow welt.

Sysdoc, by "narrow welt," I'm assuming you mean that the soles (and welt) are cut close to the uppers. This is something I value highly as well. Is it generally true, in your experience, that EGs are cut somewhat closer than JLs? Of course, any shoe can have the sole trimmed back if it extends too far, something I've had done more than once.

Sysdoc,

I agree with your statement about the JL Portman. I was referring to this model, which haven't the heel counter:

I will be posting pics of my bleached Dovers soon

Well, here we go, EG changed specs and I wasn't aware of it ... I'll post pictures of "my" Ecton within the next 24 hours, which has got a heel counter, but a very nicely shaped one at that. However, I do appreciate that the pseudo-Ecton I have is not of final spec, so, Lionel, you are 100% right and I was wrong as far as my comment about the heel counter of the final Ecton model goes. I'll say it ten times so I won't forget: EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter. EG's Ecton does NOT have a heel counter.

Add Scottish accent:
You do not say it,
you write it one hundred times in your best joint-up handwriting,
that's the way we do things at Marcia Blaine.
