Thought as much. Never really liked the look of pleated, but wanted to be sure the marcella wouldn’t clash very obviously.
See some pictures from Andy57 here with what look to be a similar combination, and he always looks like he knows what he’s doing.
Would the cummerbund be an ‘error’ or just unnecessary, I wonder?

Andy does know what he's doing...

Under a DB jacket, I'd categorize cummerbund as unnecessary, not an error

Paul Muni wore a waistcoat with a double-breasted jacket in Scarface, so how wrong could it be? 🙂

Have ordered myself an ivory db shawl dinner jacket, and planning out the rest of my outfit.
What shirt style do people recommend? Thinking a plain front with studs, semi spread collar would match the vibe of the jacket, or is a marcella front a better bet?
Black cummerbund is probably not strictly necessary with the double breasted closure, but might be good to have anyway?
Getting this together for my wedding, want it to looks as good as possible
I prefer pleated with more "casual" or "summery" DJ options like ivory or shawls (whether midnight or ivory), and plain stud fronts with more "wintery" or "formal" styles like a 3 piece peak but I do mix and match both. Sometimes even a pleated studded front.

On other news, getting a midnight shawl 1b in mohair cashmere made. I grew out of almost all my DJs bar the recent 2x1 ivory shawl and just received a sample of the mohair cashmere, feels so lux!

On the topic of shirts/studs….

Heres the situation, black tie optional wedding this weekend. Weather looks nice, so I’m going with off white shawl lapel DJ, with pleated front shirt. Do I go Casablanca and use the shell buttons that came with the shirt, or go with studs?

While I generally encourage wearing a black tie rig whenever invited to do so...I don't know that I would wear white to a wedding. I know this is much more a concern for women rather then men, but unless you know them very well and can inquire...I'd urge erring on the side of caution.

I do know them well and the DJ is approved and encouraged by both bride and groom.

Still looking for opinions on studs vs buttons.

If it were me (and I've been dying for a off-white DB shawl DJ) I'd go with Casablanca-style shell buttons to minimize the contrast...
Mine’s SB. If I were having it made, I’d get it DB (like Rick….) but this was a gift…. So it is what it is.

Try on pics (no studs)

I’d go with the studs myself, I think the contrast is welcome - it’s a small touch of formality.
Jacket looks class with the button front shirt though, very clean.
Not a very helpful response I know

Any tips on finding separate trousers, classic wide leg, off the rack in Europe, on a budget?
Pair I have with my black dj aren’t quite what I think I’ll want with my new ivory jacket.
Been browsing eBay, thinking vintage might be best budget option as all I’m seeing googling retail is slim/tailored fit
