Next up in the journey is a good solid black boot. I’m thinking a plain toe but also open to captoe options.

Here’s a question for the group though: what’s your favorite leather for black boots? Shell, calf, CXL, any cool grains out there?

I’m a shell head so I like black shell boots. Wish I could get Alden to make a brown shell cap toe oxford for me. Might have to follow in your footsteps and look elsewhere.

In other colors, CXL or Suede would be nice options, but with Black I love Alden Shell! Alden plaintoe boots have so many variations with or without the Indy quarter stitch, ankle stitch, 2x2 heel foxing, etc.

I am very partial to the B+M "Downtown" straight Tip boot with 9 eyelets, 360 reverse welt, and double waterloc soles.
