There's frugal, and then there's a recipe for disaster/divorce. If you can afford Alden Shell Cordovan, buy the bone.
The femur is what's sold for shell cordovan care. I imagine it goes through some drying/curing process though. However, rancid deer marrow might provide some nourishing benefits and really let the color bloom. Let us know!
