I actually wear many kind of ankle boots with jeans, but I agree that there is something about the softness of suede that makes it go especially well with blue denim. The ones I wear with blue denim are not dark brown but rather medium brown, which makes them look especially nice, IMO.
Also, one more reason for wearing my suede chelsea boots with denim is that they look a bit to casual to go well dress pants, although today I am actually wearing them at my job, with a pair of wool slacks and a tweed sport coat.
Basically, I prefer not to wear chelseas when I am wearing a tie, but I make exceptions to this "rule", such as today. Today the excuse is bad weather.
(With black jeans, which I sometimes wear when walking my dogs -but hardly on any other occasion-, I mostly wear dark grey suede chelsea boots or my black Sabelt sneakers, depending on the weather.)
Yes, I definitely agree that a medium brown would normally be preferable with blue jeans; unless the jeans are very dark.
I can also see how one might feel somewhat out of kilter, if one wore a pair of Chelsea boots with formal attire; but I should think they would be fine with neutral, mid-toned wool? Especially if it's in a fairly relaxed and/or slightly rural style.
BTW, please excuse me if I'm not using the right terminology - I know what I mean, visually speaking, but I'm really not up on the correct words to use!
