Yep, I think that's what most people are looking for. They just want the justification, too.

I'm a member of a really old skin care forum. Everyone primarily came on to find what works for the skin. Once that stuff was found and agreed on, the forum kind of died. It's so good that the product category around which SF is centered isn't primarily function based. If we only cared about the absolutely warmest outerwear, once we found the answer there'd be nothing left to discuss.

Probably a forcefield?

Is there a reason why SF writers have to concentrate on tradeshows? When I think of SF stories that I've really liked, I think of Manton's visit to Edward Green or Synth's interview with Robert Geller. A lot of that stuff felt like it took a deeper dive, rather than just saying "here are some new products coming out."

I'm one of those people who really like threads like this to fulfill the social aspect of the forum. It's like the forum version of reality TV. I've been a forum member for 10 years and have long stopped needing (but not stopped coveting) new things. I come back because it's a cool place to hangout.

StyleForum tends to bond the most when we all get to hear about the troubles of @mafoofan's shopping experiences. Maybe Fok should give him a spending budget.

Or merge the two ideas and give mafoofan a spending budget to buy for a store at Pitti.

I nominate @gdl203's shop.

The better idea is to send a photographer/reporter to help facilitate Foo's reviews of his Chavet shirts and Maison bonnet glasses. Foo threads definately spike forum activity, at least for me. The threads keep me at the edge of my seat, figuratively if not literally.

Having just read Dieworkwear's blog post on cashmere sweaters, I say give the man some money so he can compare plies (e.g., 2 vs. 4) and brands (e.g., William Lockie vs. ESK) by wearing the clothes and visiting factories. It would be investigative sartorial reporting.

Topical. Our audience includes, but is not limited to, our core membership and Pitti is a node of interest. Also, in order to have an impact on the industry, there are just certain events that make sense to cover. Also, we can get dozens of stories in the single trip, so it's economical.

We'll do this in articles throughout the season.

That would be cool, but honestly, a story like that would cost thousands of dollars in travel costs for a single person, plus the cost of products. It could be done, but we'd need to be able to justify it on the basis that the readership and sponsorship that it would attract would more than offset the cost of doing such a story.

If you want stuff like that to happen, probably the best thing that you can do is to subscribe to, and read, our monthly newsletters, and to tell your friends to do the same.

Speak for yourself. This is a community, not Yahoo Answers. There's more than enough room for both kinds of content.

It's not a crazy statement, at least not for the smaller brands. There is a lot of buying power on Styleforum. For Vibergs, for example, Styleforummarket is now among the larger stockists, and that does not even include the large number of Vibergs that are sold to Styleforum members (it's easy to see from the Viberg thread).

What about the (negative) impact that Styleforum had on Inverallan MTO sales.

Styleforum is a very large community, with many long terms readers and followers who don't necessarily post much. And some of the brands that we deal with are quite small.
