Hey Brad,
I'm not trying to speak for you. I went ahead and took the liberty of saying "most people are looking for," but that could be as little as >50% of people. Plenty of room for you to not be included. I think the number is greater, though, and I'll explain below.
Also, you're doing that thing where I make a non-extreme comment, and then you present the most extreme version of it, to ridicule my original comment. The problem is, I didn't say the extreme version that you're presenting. No Yahoo Answers or anything like it from me. For example, I say to a guy, "I think you're dressed too warmly for the weather." He responds: "So you want me to strut around in a banana hammock?!?" No man, that's not what I'm saying.
Fok did the same thing. He presented the most extreme dumbed-down version of what I was saying: "Buy X." But I figured he was being humorous. Plus, I'm sure he and the crew are tired from Pitti, and it wasn't the most uplifting thing to read my (hopefully constructive) criticism (I did give praise in there, too). So if he wanted to show me a little edge, I was fine with it.
The non-extreme stuff I was saying was for a higher clothing stuff / to non-clothing stuff ratio. I said I liked reading about the non-clothing stuff (food, drink, travel difficulties, whatever), but the bread and butter of SF is clothes, and the other stuff should be offshoots of that. How many times have we read discussions that end with "It's only clothes, man"? I also said I liked reading all subject matter (clothing or non-clothing) from a personal point of view, rather than distant objectivity. And about the clothing stuff, I do think *most* people are interested in what's good and what's not. I say this simply from looking around the Internet.
Wherever people gather to talk about a good or service, people try to determine what's good and what's not. What are the best universities? Mid-size pickups? Blenders? Ski runs? Snowboards? Best vacuum for dog hair? Veterinary service in my area? Tailors? Cobblers? Gaming PC? New manga? What's good about clothes is that what's good is a much richer discussion than for something like blenders.
