My bro owns these roughout leather 6 inch mocs bought way back in the 90's...
they need resoling & reconstruction of the leather...
anyways he's selling them off as what they are right now....
no logos at the sides & insoles...
only 1 rectangular tag on the right tongue without sizing...

Does anyone know which one of Otterwax or Obernauf LP would be better to wax Iron Ranger Hawthornes ? I know most people use LP but I was curious if anyone has used Otterwax or both.

Otterwax is built for a completely different purpose than for shoe/leather protection...so I'd definitely go with Obenauf's if you want to use a beeswax type of product on your IRs. Different compositions and additives. I like otterwax and have used it on a few things that I own (a jacket, canvas backpack, etc), but I would never use it on my shoes/boots.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I did not know if it would be better since it was more of a natural product and I thought I read where some of the formulas had changed for Obernauf and Sno Seal, containing less wax. But I might have dreamed that lol..... I will definitely go with the Obernaufs though. Most of the pictures I have seen that I like used it any way.

The snoseal formula has changed in recent years, but Obenauf's LP is a good product if you're looking tow ax shoes.

All Goodyear welted footwear has an insole. Red Wing's is leather. If you're talking about a foot liner or heel pad, no, they do not.

I don't recall anything with an arch being present. It's like they were selling an incomplete item. I may be wrong.

Red Wing boots don't even come with insoles, do they?

They don't, but if you go to a Red Wing store they sell Red Wing insoles. When I bought my last pair (I don't recall the model off the top of my head, they are the black logger boots), I asked about insoles and the salesguy said to try one of the Red Wing ones in the store. They didn't cost much so I bought a pair. They've been in the boots for probably 8 or 9 years now and still seem to be holding up fine.

Just ordered Red Wing 8055 Foreman. Can't wait. I truly hope I like them since I purchased online without seeing them in person. I have a pair of Iron Rangers and went with the same size, hope it fits...

Are there any lighter alternatives to red wing boots? I like the classic style with the white sole but find that they're too heavy for my daily use.

Hi,

I have an Iron Ranger 8111, just wondering what do you guys do to preserve the leather and keeping them clean?
I have Obenauf's LP and RW Natural Boot Oil. Just in a bit of a dilemma on which should I use.

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a pair of Red wing oxblood mesa leather 213 boots, which are obviously chromexcel and getting worked in. I would like to buy either a pair of Beckman's in colour 8, or else a pair of wolverine 1000 miles (I like the rust colour, but also the colour 8!). I don't have a sense of how close they are in colour...would it be redundant?
Any suggestions would be great!
