You should have made spotted dick. Then I could have posted something witty like "don't forget to post pics of your spotted dick, matt!"

As important as you are to me, and you are, I am going to go ahead with the steak and ale pie.

You want a brit flat, room temp beer with it that came from a cask. Have some mashed potatoes and sausages+gravy with it. Does the trick for me.

I had steak and kidney pie a couple weeks ago. I don't really like the kidneys but they are easily removed. I've never had a steak and ale pie. Once I am done with all this school crap I'll be able to start cooking again. Maybe I will attempt one. If you are getting a recipe online, post a link pls.

I found most pub food really bad when I lived there. Haven't thought twice about fish & chips or bangers & mash since I left London - never missed that for one bit.

It depends on the pub, like anything else. My grandfather lived in a tiny village in Dorset and some of the food at the local pub was quite good. I'm sure that some places served some pretty horrible stuff though. English chips are really tops though. The fries we have in north america suck by comparison.

Ummmm No,

while some are really good, most British chips are woefully underdone and sort of limp and soggy.

I agree - the average chips in London are... surprise... average. So many places use frozen chips too now. The only redeeming action is to drown them in vinegar, I guess.

Can't say i've experienced that. My grandfather made awesome chips and my father makes them just as well.

At least they have malt vinegar, which is rare in the US.

So far so good. I'll post the recipe if it comes out tasting right.

Most are disgusting here as well. However, there is one very good place for fish and chips on the water in Half Moon Bay. We went on Saturday, and it whetted my appetite for pub food.

I love bangers and mash.

Pub food is like bar food. Great in concept, but frequently bad in execution. Also keep in mind that many pub food experiences are after a few pints of tastebud dulling beer / lager / etc...

When pub food is done right it is the perfect thing in the perfect moment.
