You are probably correct, although one might disagree about the degree of difference on the aforementioned models. Just to make it clear, I don't have any problems with Richemont per se; as a matter of fact, the group owns some of the top tier watch manufacturers (Vacheron, Lange, JLC, Dubuis) which I absolutely love (well, except Dubuis perhaps). I just wish they had left Panerai in Italy where it belongs. If they wanted a mid-range Swiss-Made brand, their Baume et Mercier brand could have filled that space...

Not at all.
PAM's worn by folk in the medical field took off in the past 6 or 7 years.
I bought mine in the late Nineties.

I'm confused - you bought in the late nineties a PAM183, which first series (G) went for sale mid 2004? My point is that by the time PAM183 came out, Panerai had, by all measures (including your "past 6 or 7 years"), already "really exploded". Not that anyone cares but your first statement above seems illogical in that context. Maybe you were thinking of your first PAM bought in the late nineties? What model was that one?

I havnt read every post so maybe this has been said, but there is a case out there for just wearing it.

some of the high finance firms can get a rep for liking people with debt loads, expensive tastes, and a desire for fortune. Not so much that you could become a blackmail/bribery target but enough that you will work your ass to the bone and pull long weeks without complaint to pay the bills. If you actually need the money (or more) you are going to keep working and working for a promotion.
