HI everyone. I stumbled across this website while trying to get some info on a recent yard-sale pickup. I've been around Fedora Lounge for a while, and expect there's lots of crossover.

Anyway, the reason I'm here..

At a yard sale the other day I noticed a pair of black dress shoes, and decided to take a closer look. Surprisingly they were my size, I didn't at first recognize the label "Aristocraft", but saw "Made in USA", and then found Johnston and Murphy. They have been worn, but in good shape, and the rubber heel cap looks nearly new (possibly replaced).

Asked the fellow there what he wanted to get for them, and he came up with $5. I knew of J&M and I knew $5 was a steal for any decent condition made in USA shoe, so I grabbed them. He indicated that the shoes belonged to his father (the seller I'd guess was in his late 40's or 50's) who had passed away some years ago, but was always "very picky" about how he dressed, but unfortunately the shoes weren't the right size for anyone in the family.

Now I've read opinions ranging from the Aristocrafts being spectacular on par, if not better than, Allen Edmonds (of which I have 3 pair), but that "recent" ones are dramatically lesser in quality. So what have I got here?
