My wedding is coming up and I need help on deciding the colour/style of the tie and pocketsquare for me and my groomsmen.

In the morning (church):
- Im going to wear DB light grey suit with white shirt
- Groomsmen will wear black suit, white tshirt.
- Bridesmaid will in Blush Gold/Rose Gold

Question: Should I go with necktie instead of bowtie? And then which colour for the tie and pocketsquare is good for me to standout ? Also, I'm thinking to give my groomsmen a black slim necktie, but need a good pocketsquare color to match the bridesmaid, any idea?

In the evening (event):
- Im going to wear black tuxedo, with black bowtie.
- Groomsmen will wear the same thing in the morning
- same with the bridesmaids.

Question: Which colour of pocketsquare should I go with? Pretty sure a simple fold white pocketsquare will do the job. But for my groomsmen, I need a distinct one so they can be recognized as my "groomsmen" and matching to bridesmaid' dress.

If anyone of you can help me, that would be awesome!! Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure the black suit, white shirt, skinny black tie will stand out. Don’t think many guests will wear that combo. White pocket square would work.

hey! thanks for your reply. So are you saying, that all my groomsmen should wear skinny black tie and white pocketsquare? Hmm don't you think they should match my bridesmaids' dress colour?

Personally I think matching the pocket square to the maids dresses is something brides and bridal magazines thought up. Reminds me of moms dressing their sons in cute outfits it needs to stop when they turn 3 or 4

Your men are there to support you her maids to support her. Traditionally your not even supposed to see her in her dress much less coordinate colors between your men and her maids. The two groups are from opposing camps not on the same team they don’t wear the same colors.

Since you have the black and white thing going I say stick with it

But I am a fashion illiterate

not the best source (wiki) but this is the traditional reason for groomsmen

Bridegroom-men formerly had important duties. The men were called bride-knights, and represented a survival of the primitive days of marriage by capture, when a man called his friends in to assist to "lift" or kidnap the bride, or from the need to defend the bride from would-be kidnappers

One other thought you could have them wear white squares to the wedding itself and match the dresses at the reception. Sort of like a knight wearing a ladies scarf as a favor or token. That would symbolize the “joining” of the two groups.

You actually got the point. And it made me to consider this thing again. I might decide to go what you told me for groomsmen - white pocketsquare in the church and something colorful in the reception. Thanks a lot!!

By the way, when I wear light grey double breasted suit, with a white shirt. What colour of tie should I wear? Im thinking to wear maroon, but my partner said to me, I would look too "casual". How about navy tie, and maroon pocketsquare?

Occasionally that happens but let's not depend on it

How about a Macclesfield tie in black and white or silver and white for the ceremony? It is the traditional wedding tie and would go with the formality of the double breasted suit. Black and white would match the groomsmen but be distinctive with the pattern. (Your black and white tie would match their black and white "uniform")

It would sort of mimic a man and his retainers where they wear simplified variations of his colors which was common from the middle ages down through today. It carries on in the colors of sports teams and regimental and school colors.

P.S. The reason I suggest this is it represents something. Burgundy, navy, and maroon are just colors but the black and white tie would show your link to and respect for the men that stand with you. Weddings are one of the most ceremonial events many of us will participate in and each element should be more than decorative but actually have a symbolic meaning

Black suit with white is quite funeral to me, unless you go the Tom Ford route. (just not as fitted)

Grey DB suit w/white shirt is a classic. Have a nice dark red or black grenadine tie and you'll be golden.

Tom ford- knitted black tie? I guess thats what my groomsmen would look like except the white pocketsquare.. still consider a pattern pocketsquare to make it more "festive".
Yes! DB suit with dark red or dark navy would be good! I like that idea.. also Macclesfield tie would be an option too for the groomsmen!
