Get some feedback on the tailor's abilities before placing an order. I have been at Hong Kong Tailors in Atlanta, but only for some alterations (it has been a while). They did the simple alterations well, but that does not imply that they will make a great suit. At least they seemed to be very nice.

BTW: They are definitely not from Hong Kong (no idea how they came up with the name).

Funny they aren't from HK. Most likely because HK has great tailors, I'm sure there is some family influence thoguh...

Here's the latest.

1818 Fitz - $998 + 25% off w/corporate discount = $748.5 before tax

Custom Made w/a Super 100 wool - $995 + 10% off = $900

Sorry, but I am failing to see what is stopping you from choosing one over the other.

1818 = half canvas & overpriced even at 25% off. You can get a Benjamin with higher armholes & full canvassing for $500.

Custom made = should be full canvassed, requires no further alterations (and if it does, send it back and demand a remake), much more choices, etc etc etc.

If money is your primary concern, don't buy either...

What would you suggest then if money is my concern? Also do you know any store that stocks Benjamin suits? I can only find them online.

If you can stand it, used suits. You won't get a better made garment at a lower price.

For new suits, Nordstrom's Rack. With Joseph Abboud adorning the very full racks of suits in virtually every size... You need go no further. Might not work for solids in staple colors. But I've seen midnight blue and very very faint pinstripes. Right now they've got Canali and Armani Colezioni too. Another option if your a more regular size, Off Fifth & Nieman Marcus Last Call.

Clearly online is the best option for pricing on certain items. ehaberdasher is the sole retailer of Benjamin. For half canvassed suiting options, buy from the Wizard on ebay. $290 is cheap and he has good return policies and will help you find a suit that works.

But Norstrom's Rack is where I would go first. Otherwise, just buy the 1818, it won't get much cheaper than that. Not unless you can get a discount off a Joseph Abboud at Nordstrom's. The JA is pretty much the same quality and the MSRP is much less.

It's an online brand. But because of the high button stance they look bad on everyone I've seen.
