Hello,
I've been lurking this part of the forum, since few months back...as I finally has some budget to treat myself a new leather jacket for x-mas/ new year.
this was my custom jacket project, based on my own drawing/ design.

still thinking whether I want to make a stamp to emboss my name on it like in my original plan, or maybe it would look too childish to have that.

but I'm very happy today... BTW the prototype was made from denim, so now I have 2 jackets one in black leather, and the other in dark blue denim.

Thoughts on shortening leather jackets? Worth the risk?
I've had 2 jackets altered. The first was taking in the sides slightly and shortening the sleeves, the second shortening the body. Both came out really well BUT I think it would depend on where you took it.

I found a great place that specialises in Motorcycle Leathers repairs, you might try looking for somewhere like that in your area and not just some "Leather Factory".

Did the jackets have lining inside the sleeves? I assume to shorten the sleeves they did not just cut the cuffs but the sleeves and then adjust the cuffs, so they would have to deal with the lining also... my jacket is for colder weather and the lining is warm..

Yes the sleeves had lining (not super thick though) but it was a cafe racer style and they were zip sleeves so the sleeve and zip were both shortened...not a cuff alteration but has its own complexities.

Looks surprisingly good . Do you have better photos? What was the leather type used? Overall cost?

thank you,
Well since, I have little knowledge about naming leather, here I describe how it was before they cut it up.

I'll make better photos, those was taken with my cellphone cam.

about the overall cost, well it might be considered 'cheap' for $ standard... but you must understand it is totally different economy here in my country, and the fact the shop owner is my mom's neighbor, friend, and client. might play a major factor for me getting a real bargain. it was $300, most probably it only covered the production cost without much profit, and since it was based on my own design... guess no world class designer/ brand need to be paid from it... :) so I'm totally happy with my one of a kind jacket at that price.

Jacket looks solid, but definitely don't put your name on it. Zipper on the back of the neck is kinda weird.

Thank you!
Yes I agree about the name, it was a whimsical idea... after done sketching, on the actual jacket it would look too funny and cartoony.

here are some more photos of the prototype denim compared to the final piece in leather ( I asked them to give lining to the proto, and upgrade some parts like zipper on the side, and slightly more tapered waist, but they forgot to add piping around the shoulder and around the neck as what I ordered for my final piece).

the fit of my prototype (denim)

and this is the weird back pocket up close

actually this represent geeky side of me, I thought it would look futuristic, that snap buttons when uncovered look like it can connect to a computer for piloting a giant mecha with direct control from my spinal nerve. However it is also a functional large pocket.

some better photos taken by my sister earlier today

"What if we switched from fanny packs to fanny backs?! We could carry them on the top of our backs instead of on our hip!"

-Rick. Those are called backpacks. You can't reinvent a backpack by calling it a fanny back.

5k is terrible for that leather. You can buy it new for under 4k if you do done research.

Got my new intarsia in i size L. Fits way better then the XL but I don't think it fits as small as everyone makes it seem. I'm 6'4" 175-180 and this is a L. It fits perfect but I will say it is more on the lightweight side which is fine with me. I'll get more use out of it this way. Strange thing is that the last one to bought was a different kind of leather...it felt more like a roughed up suede but the color of both of them is dark shadow and one was dark brown and the new one like a medium grey. Like not even close in color to one another. But I much prefer this one.
