How to get that nice roll on shirt collars

The top one is a Kiton, the bottom is a Finamore - and neither have collar stays in them. Like they said up there, the key is to get the collar shape down pat. Kiton and Finamore (for me) have hands down the best collars in RTW shirts today. Heres a few more : (top to bottom : Borrelli, Mattabisch by Kiton, Finamore, Kiton)

All collars in this thread, including the ones at the top, are indeed spread collars. Are you confusing them with cutaway collars?

And to Spoo, do your Italian shirt collars have fused or sewn interlinings? I know Italians are know for fused collars, but I get all my high-end shirts from English makers with sewn interlinings. And what type of tie knot do you use? I can see they are asymmetrical like a four-in-hand, but they knots look much fatter than most.

AFAIK, all sewn, but Id have to get back to you on that for sure. All the knots are either a DFIH or a FIH.

Maybe, my impression of a spread collar is this:

I wouldnt differentiate any of those shirts above to any large degree with a point collar, they are a touch wider than a trad point collar, but not enough to warrant calling it different.

I guess I'm wrong about this?

BTW, as Spoo said no collar stays. When using stays it flattens out the area where the collar meets the collar band. This is where you need the roll, which is key to the look.

Shortening plastic stays may have the same effect. I cant see myself not using them, my shirt collor tends to curl up by the end of the day and I look like a winged avenger.

I think the collars in Spoo's shirts vs the one idfnl posted is just an example of a semi-spread vs a full spread.
