Fingerless Gloves?

For sheer usefulness and warmth, you have to go with glittens. They are the fingerless gloves that have the mitten flap to cover your fingers.

It's the ultimate in functionality and what I wear pretty much exclusively in the winter. While you're walking around, keep the mitten flap over your fingers. When it's time to pull out your Metrocard or get keys from your pocket, just flip the mitten-top back. The best glittens have tiny slits for your thumbs ... with this feature you can even tie your shoelaces without taking off your glittens. Far superior to either gloves, mittens, or fingerless gloves in my opinion.

Thank you for your contribution of a photograph to this thread. I quite like the button; much superior to velcro, aesthetically.

Another plus of having the use of your fingers is being able to futz with chin-straps, toggles, zips, and whatever other fastening mechanisms that come into play in the winter (i am thinking coats and bags).

when I wear mittens I feel like some mongoloid marsupial with an inability to use or feel his fingers, only able to helplessly paw at himself in a vain effort to change the Pandora song on his iPhone. I make sure all of my clothes give me a feel of sleak, James Bond, Snake Pliskin-esque badassery.

also to the dude who said 'I keep my hands in fingerless gloves in my pocket' - why wear gloves at all?

it's a fashion thing, and thats cool, but it's not really practical

Because my hands are friggin cold and I need to maintain dexterity. It's not rocket science. Without the fingerless gloves, my options are: 1) Full fingered gloves that I have to take on and off constantly to dig into my pockets, my bag, change my music on my decidedly unfashionable mp3 player, flip pages in my book (if you read a lot, you know that being able to turn a page requires just a little bit of friction from your finger and you do it by feel, whereas with a glove, you paw at it and end up turning 5 pages and then have to marsupialed thumb back until you get the right page, then saying *******, taking off the glove, and doing it the right way, then putting back on the glove, thorougly ruining the reading for the moment), etc. If I smoked cigs, that'd be another task made easier. 2) Bare Hands. If you don't like fingerless gloves, I suggest that you not wear them. The fingerless gloves do a good job of keeping my hands warm enough to do things without having to constantly stop, pull a glove off, do task, put glove back on, stop, pull a glove off, do task, put glove on, usually with a glove hanging from my mouth (how sexy), etc. Some folks just have a different lifestyle. I'm more of an on-the-go person and do a lot of things with my hands. Edit: not a fan of the leather quilted arm warmers above. Those extend too far up the forearm for my liking. If you're going for the arm-warmer look, then go ahead and go all the way. If they cut short like a set of normal gloves, I'd be more of a fan.

This is more my style.

i insist on glove-fingerlessness because i take public transportation, so i am always having to fish my pass out of my pocket at a moment's notice, if say, my bus is coming down the street or whatnot. also, it is nice to be able to access keys, wallet, without having to remove the gloves.

What he said. They're a helluva lot warmer than no gloves at all.

I wish I lived in a climate that allowed me to wear fingerless gloves..

But really, why even bother wearing fingerless gloves? I don't bother wearing mittens until -20C/-4F. I just use my pockets..

I think this has been answered like 10 times in the thread.

Yep, convertible mittens > fingerless gloves imo. The same functionality but with genuine protection from the cold. Fingerless gloves may allow for more dexterity but good luck feeling anything or moving your fingers when they're turning blue and numb.

That's why you put them in your pockets in between tasks. Or ball up into a fist. I'm avoiding the whole take the glove on and off ordeal. Removing a glitten is still an extra step I don't need. Besides, random people may give me change. Have you seen the cost of selvedge these days?
