Yes, I would tend to agree that's a risk. Problem for me was side gaping in the D184 due to flat arches. Going from D to E with solved that and did not result in heel slippage. Perhaps I am closer to E than D but in the 202's the D width just fit better than the E

Ah I see now. Yeah I can do a 202D or 202E and do a 184E

How many folks have had EGs long enough to crack the leather? I'm thinking my Newmarkets are done for. EG told me to send them in and they'd have a look but not sure anything can be done and whether it would be worth the cost of postage. Pity as they have been a favorite the past 10 years or so..not to mention I had had EG re-sole them not long before I noticed the issue. Any thoughts? First pair of shoes I've worn out.. though certainly not the oldest pair of shoes in my closet and rarely (if ever) did they see bad weather.

They may not have seen bad weather but have they seen regular applications of cream and wax? This is easily preventable I'd say.

Is it just a surface crack or is there an actual hole in the uppers? If it's the former (looks like it), then it should be a relatively easy fix. They'll sand down the affected area, refinish it and then apply cream/wax which should fix this.

Even if it's fully cracked, it can be patched up, but honestly it doesn't look too bad.

Definitely worth sending back to EG, their repairs department does excellent work.

I am pretty stringent with my shoe care and the boots have seen regular maintenance with only Saphir Médaille d'Or products to include cream, wax, renovateur etc. When my feet aren't in them, lasted shoe trees are. After each wearing they are wiped down and allowed to sit a few days at least before the next wearing. Shoes are stored in bags and/or under provided EG cloth.. Products are not overused but applied when needed after a few wearings. I'm not really into mirror shined toe boxes so use cream more often than wax.

As stated, this is the first time its happened to me..even with shoes I've had several years longer.. nor has it happened to other EGs I own that are pretty much the same age.

Now that you say it, they do look nice and shiny in the top-down photo, fair enough.

Plenty of life in them left I'd say, EG should certainly be able to fix this.

I have EG's that are 10-15 yrs old and no cracked leather

After each wearing they are wiped down, allowed to sit a few a few days at least before the next wearing. Products are not overused but applied when needed on a regular basis. As stared, this is the first time its happened to me..even with shoes I've had several years longer.. nor has it happened to other EGs I own that are pretty much the same age.

Hopefully something that can be remedied
