Eames Lounge Chair copies... worth it?

If someone actually made a knock off that was just like the real thing it would be a different story.

I've sat in the Rove one...it isn't it. It's a knockoff status symbol that lacks the fundamental comfort of the real thing.

It is literally saying "I want to look like I bought a genuine Herman Miller chair because I'm better than you."

I've read maybe a hundred reviews (some of which are likely fake, I'm aware) that disagree with you. What differences did you notice?

Also that will likely be true for those planning to front. I have no trouble letting people know it's a replica.

I'm not gonna lead with it, mind; nothing worse than someone showing you something nice and following it up with "plus I only paid $xx for it"

THAT'S cheap.

Its more a case of if something is too good to be true then it probably is. Its nothing to do with being better than someone or whether ones pockets are deeper than others. Money has time and time again proved itself to be no guarantee of taste or the owner of manners. Considering on the many threads here, the regularity of first posters praising the virtues of whatever knockoff, one starts to suspect the boy who calls wolf. Despite your elegant defense I am still somewhat wary.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't actually find them tacky. Knockoff giant logos or LV print fabrics are tacky (although I think both are kind of tacky even when not knockoffs). The question posed in the thread is "are eames lounge copies worth it?". There are other reproductions or "inspired by..." pieces that are worth it to me, but not this one.

I just can't fathom spending that much money on a chair that I honestly don't find that comfortable compared to the real thing. Maybe if it were like $300...but once you are spending that kind of money, there are other chairs you could buy that don't compromise the primary use of the object to save a buck or two.

Tried to buy an imitation Eames LCW once too and had a similar problem. It may have been the same shape, but without the proper flex joints, it wasn't actually good to sit in.

Well said sir.

I've sat in many poorly made versions of the Lounge, ranging from $800 to around $2k (CAD), and none were good. But I didn't find them particularly uncomfortable.

I've never sat in a Rove but I took the plunge based on the reviews. If it's at least as comfortable as a bad replica, I think I'll be satisfied.

Probably wind up sitting on my couch anyway just so i can look at it :p

FWIW, I side by sided the PiobChair with the real thing. Piob chair is at least as comfy and supportive...plus it looks way better!

Welp, it arrived today, and I am extremely satisfied.

Any doubts I had vanished when I sat down. This thing is built WELL. Time will tell exactly HOW well, and while I have no doubt that a true expert could spot the difference, the only one I can see between Rove and Herman Miller is the lack of a very expensive sticker.

RebelScum, that's indeed a very nice looking chair. I'm coming from the "for original" camp and I do have some experience spotting fakes. I'm by no means promoting fakes or replicas but I do agree that Rove probably does the best job copying the original. A couple of questions though. What's that thing that looks like a clip under the arm rest? Also, you said you spent around $3000 on this chair and I just have a hard time understanding that. You can probably get a new original Herman Miller one for $3500 but you'd rather spend $3000 on a copy? I'm not telling you how to spend your money but I'm really interested in the thought process there. Look forward to hearing from you.

Wait... I missed that. The copy he bought cost over $3k? That doesn't make any sense.

RebelScum I have a knock off Rolex for sale you might be interested in. Runs real nice and built WELL. Time will tell exactly HOW well, and while I have no doubt that a true expert could spot the difference, the only one I can see between it and an authentic Rolex is a very expensive sticker. Only asking $10k!

Hit me up over pm and let's make a deal.

Canadian prices. The entry level version at DWR starts at $4800; upgraded to similar leather as mine is pushing $8k. Used, I haven't found anything that after conversion and shipping would be less than $4500, and that's AGGRESSIVELY used.

That clip is actually just the Rove manufacturer fabric tag. If I really wanted to I could tuck it up under the metal plate, but, meh.
