Car totaled, need new 1, BMW vs Lexus

Infiniti as a whole has great reliability, the worst part is that across the board their cars have some of the worst MPG ratings of any company if that matters to you. To make matters worse the MPG numbers on the stickers are almost never achieved. I've been at the G35 boards since the car came out and most are in the mid to upper teens.

I keep hearing ravings about Lexus' reliability. Can anyone who owns or owned one tell me just how reliable and trouble-free Lexus is? How about the handling? Comfort?.... etc. The stylings are kind of bland, but I am willing to overlook.

sorry you had this misfortune, von, didnt see this till now. but luckily seems like you are going to have fun looking for a new car. i hope insurance covered this. i would go with a lexus too. although bmw might be fun ,after the fun wears off you will be left with how functional/practical/reliable your car is on a daily basis.

Apparently, all the other models besides the LS were based on existing models sold in Japan as Toyotas. For example, the ES is a glorified Camry.

Actually no. My wife drives a Camry. The powertrain and engine are the same but tuned differently. Both great cars by the way but the Lexus models are much more refined and are typically made in different factories like Tahara. You get better paint, leather, interior wood, finish levels, and loads more features. Still the Camry can be a fantastic value for dollar. The new styling leaves me cold however (the front anyway). The Avalon is sort of a budget Lexus I admit.

Here's a question for those who have driven both: the Camry and the ES have pretty much the same external dimensions, but the Camry has an extra 3" or so of backseat legroom listed. Does that square with anyone's subjective impression of sitting in both, and what might the reason be?
