Hey guys,

Looking to stock up on some more durable outwear that I can layer. I have one of Patagonia's R3s and their basic synchilla fleeces and I'm looking to get a few more. I wear size S and XS usually and I was wondering when they had major sales? My current items were full-retail impulse buys but now that I'm mostly off the parental tit, I'm hoping to save a few bucks. Along that vein do y'all think it's possible that the boys size XL/L will be proportioned properly for a 19 year old? I've seen in the past in other brands' quarter-zips or half-zips the "collars" or whatever that goes around your neck is really oddly proportioned. Not sure if that's the case here.

Thanks everybody.

Best time is during one of their sales. These occur in February/March and in August. Think of them as semi-annual sales. Most items are 30-60% off as they clear out all the old stock to make way for new seasonal merchandise.

Even the staples like the R1 pullovers, synchilla snap-Ts, and puffball vests go on sale because they tweak styling/colors from season to season/year to year so they clear the prior season's merchandise.

There are also always sale items available on the Web Specials section of the website, but these are typically odd sizes and colors.

Thanks SF (a new me)

I believe REI's regular 25% off coupons do not exclude patagonias, so that may be an option.

I want something that I can wear in appr 30 degree temps. Running errands. Are those jkts just layering?? Or can I wear a heavy thermal or sweatshirt undernearh and be ok??

I have the down sweater and I think it's plenty fine for 30 degree temps. However, I'll wear an undershirt, thin L/S shirt and the down sweater. I think a single heavy thermal under it will be ok, but I haven't tried that. Love how the down sweater is so lightweight. No experience with the down jacket, though.

I love my green sweater. If the weather is cold you can use it as a layer underneath a more substantial jacket or just wear it on its own in mild weather. Most of the time I just wear a t-shirt underneath if I'm just hopping in and out of the car. If it's colder I just put a hoody underneath. I rarely wear the down sweater underneath another jacket. It's very versatile, and I highly recommend it.

I would recommend either picking it up during boxing day as I snagged mine for 50% off or waiting until the February/March sale.

If you live near one of their outlet stores, you can pick up stuff at their outlet sales (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day) for a huge markdown off regular outlet prices. I've scored fleece jackets for $15, and enough sports bras at $6 each to keep my wife happy for years. If you're a common size, get there an hour or two ahead of opening on the first day of the sale.
