So my college buddies and I are planning a camping trip before we head off into the real world, and we ideally want to go somewhere in Maine, for the lobster.

We're currently located in MA. We also want to go fishing, so any camping site near a river or stream would be awesome.

Any tips/suggestions as to where to go camping?

Also, any tips for what to bring? I've never been camping before, but all I can think of are:

- tent
- sleeping bag
- ice + cooler
- beer + liquor
- food
- fishing pole + bait
- water
- cell phone
- lighter/matches + oil

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any good sites to recommend in Maine.

How long do you plan on camping for? I never camped before in my life, nor did I ever have any desire to, until this year, and I can tell you it's really a great and unique experience if you do it right. Add flashlight, sleeping mat, and pillow to your item list.

I camped at a few established campgrounds earlier this year and an isolated bare site as well.

I'm a member of the American Hiking Society, and they have a pretty decent write up of equipment and some safety information if you're going to be out in the woods.

Maine has some great places to go. It sounds like you're more interested in traditional campgrounds so you should start by looking at the State Parks.

Arookstook State Park is quite beautiful -

I have no experience with the fishing there, but I know that it is available. Best of luck.
