Check out the lasts my friend. Dundees are on the 1 last which is wider than the narrow 5 last.

He is probably referring to the AE Polish or Conditioner.May I ask what kind of conditioner/cleaner you use? Surely not Saphyr.

I ask because I bought one at a local cobbler only to later find out it had a substance that would also waterproof, thus also making it hard for my shoes to breath. I didn't end up using it.
[Is this look considered fashionable now? That tie looks awful; the cut and the color.
Thoughts on the Hillsborough?

I am interested in getting my first loafer, but I'm not a big fan of the penny variety. I like the sleek lines and simplicity of this shoe. Does anyone own it and have in the wild pictures?

I'm not sure which c/c MWS is referring to but Saphir (Saphyr?)cleaner/ conditioner(Renovateur ) will not effect the breathability of leather . It does however contain mink oil which is often used as a waterproofing but not in high enough concentration to cause this problem .
I am referring to Allen Edmonds Conditioner/Cleaner. As englade said, I don't think you need to worry about breathability of the leather. Unless perhaps you are using way too much.

Everything about that ensemble is awful; the tie is just one part of an otherwise frightening whole.
I would never judge anyone for wearing tassel loafers, but I can't see myself owning a pair. I find them to be quite 'dandy'. I like the way penny loafers look on the shelf, but every time I've tried on a pair I've thought they looked rather odd on my feet. Maybe I'll go the monk strap route for a no-lace shoe instead. Though, the simplicity of slipping into the Hillsborough was appealing...especially when it's raining, due to the rubber sole.
Has AE ever made a wholecut loafer? Something like this...
They have the Ann Arbor on the clearance list currently, but it has a cemented sole.
I cannot see the crack you are referring to but to put your mind at rest there is nothing you could do to a shell cordovan shoe in 8 ,or even 80 wearings for that matter, that would cause them to crack unless they are defective . I am sure that if it is a problem AE will make it right If you are interested there is an Allen Edmonds /Horween promo video wherein the AE rep mentions the fact that shell cordovan has a tendency to crack during the lasting process . This could be what you are seeingGents, I noticed a peculiar problem with my brown shell Patriot loafers about a week back. If you look closely in this picture (I apologize for the picture quality but my camera is not very good at taking macro shots), there appears to be a dent which looks like a crack in the shoe. This is just one of three on one shoe; the other has dents but not enough to become cracks. I've applied renovateur and cordovan cream to challenge the idea of it being a welt... and it seems not the case. I've only worn these shoes about eight times or so; is this crack my fault?
