Go to a good shoe store and have them help you determine your size. Don't limit yourself to a couple of iGent brands, try everything you have close by. Buy one or two pairs and see how you like their fit, how they age etc., then buy more. Concentrate on the sizing and the lasts, all feet are different and it is likeley that some lasts will fit and others wont. 5000$ is a lot of money, so don't go overboard. Once you have determined your size in one brand, you can buy them online, but not from brands you have never tried on, otherwise you'll end up with ill-fitting shoes, like many in here.

For shoes averaging less than $1,000 you have plenty of choices. Much depends on fit. If Aldens work well for your feet, then you're all set.

EGs will get you 5 or 6 pairs for $5k. Finding the right last is important, though. And some of the best are no longer in circulation.

For bespoke at this price level, you need to head east. Maftei in Vienna is about $1,000/pr.

Vass isn't bespoke but has a lot of choices and lower prices than Maftei. Best to go to their shop in Budapest, though, to find out what fits. No sense salivating over the F-last and then realizing weeks later that it's just too narrow.

After sleeping on it, I would go ahead and pick up an EG Dover as well. If it helps, I have these 3 shoes myself, kind of, choosing the Ashby monk over the Dover but they are quite similar.

High fashion isn't really a subcultural trapping with clear and neatly defined identifiers the way punk style and doc martins are. With that being said clients of these brands usually live in large western cities (or Tokyo) and a disproportionate number of them work in creative fields (including fashion). Although I follow some of these designers it is not really what I (mostly) wear, I just wanted to illustrate the absurdity of saying "I got 5K, want some shoes, tell me what to buy". I mean the guy already has shoes so his basic needs are amply covered, what he needs to discover is not where to put 5K but what he really likes when it comes to lasts, materials, colours, styles and makers. No one can decide that for him unless he didn't really care much in the first place. I do wear some "MC" shoes but, for example, I don't do english makers. Not everyone wants the same stuff.

Ultimately, I will buy what I want to buy e.g. if the boots in your link are what everyone says is "cool" ... well, they are still not for me. My purpose with the posting was to broaden my horizons beyond what I already am familiar with and the responses have helped with that. The point of the posting was not meant to be "I have $5K burning a hole in my pocket, tell me what to buy." $5K is for me simply a realistic amount of money I wouldn't mind spending on shoes in the near-term. To some people it might seem like a lot and to others like the many who have nice shoe collections, it's probably relatively insignificant ... but my statement was not made in ignorance. The first pair I really needed was a nice pair of black wingtips and I bought the following pair from Alden yesterday. http://www.aldenshop.com/DrawOneShoe.asp?CategoryID=95 (look way better in person than in the picture) I could have spent more on the wingtips, but didn't see the need. I'll continue looking for other shoes and enjoy the experience/process.
