A quick chat about Alfred Sargent. They seem to me slept on in general (all the talk is about Vass), but they are beautiful shoes. NMWA is carrying the top line RTW shoe by AS and the finishing on the shoes seem really top notch. Tried on the loafers, which are cut sharply and had to size up a half size to get a good fit. Something to consider (toe box was a bit narrow).

Really, can't recommend enough stopping by if you are in the city. Thanks again Greg for taking the time. I had fun.
Nice writeup. Hope to do the same at some point.

The RTW NMWA carries is I believe the exclusive line (the best from AS being handgrade). That being said, AS exclusive might be some of the best quality/cost. Oak bark tanned channeled soles, and rather thick but fine leather. I'm personally a big fan of the Wilson and the single monks NMWA has in stock. Have seen many examples of 10-20 year old Alfred Sargent shoes holding up well at my place of work.

Thanks for that correction. Yes, the single monks are quite nice. Your description of the shoes seems to me spot on from what a saw.

Speaking of which, I've been eyeing the AS Wilson captoe on the 104 last. I'm normally a US 10.5+ (see my last info below) and thinking I should size up to an 11 in these - any comments?

C&J 358 UK 9 1/2E: perfect
C&J 348 US 10.5D: perfect left foot, the right foot is about 1/4 too small (@#$%!).
C&J 325 for RL US 10.5D: a touch big, but OK
Alden Plaza Last in 10.5 B/D: great

Appreciation in advance!

The butcher stripe Inglese is great. Rather slept on. I love it with the dark brown Formosa. In the picture on the prior page, I am wearing my Tattersall Inglese. One of my most comfortable shirts.

I don't have any knowledge of said lasts, but on c&j 341 I use a 10.5 UK, and I use the same on 104. The c&j is slightly roomy. There is more room for the toes further ahead in the shoe than say 724 from AS. Can try on a pair of plaza myself in an hour or so, but I tend to fit size 10 e or d with most Aldens, but 10.5 works too.

I'm getting really close to just kopping that linen Formosa. I'm trying to budget out things I'd like to get made up over F/W, and there really isn't anything left for that suit, but........

The fabric has an excellent hand. The shoulder line is "settling down" as well. And the comfort is out of this world. F/W is more of my... off season. So I am getting my kopping done early.

While this is technically correct, AS Handgrade is not a retail RTW line. At least it wasn't last I checked. MTO only. AS Exclusive is the highest grade of RTW that AS produces

There is at least one place I know of that stocks AS Handgrade. But it might be the only one, and they have very little stock. They may have effectively just done a run of MTOs to carry in their store.

I got the impression you could order series of Handgrade too. I might be mistaken, but I believe various stores do keep a stock of Handgrade, or at least has the possibility.

Butcher stripe looks great Frank!

For a different side of things, I had a bit too much fun over the past few days playing dress-up with a little bit of the first Schneider drop that we got in:

Long shirt

I might not have the right terminology here, but the top part is a dark dark charcoal or maybe black basketweave and the rest of the body (from where you see the split in the picture to the right) is that black and dark blue basketweave. It's subtle but effective in person, and i tried to get the contrast to show up on the right a bit better.

And from the other day:

wool polo shirt, cotton corduroys

Thanks guys. It may be possible now but it wasn't when we ordered our make-ups. I know because I wanted to order handgrade.

With hindsight, I'm happy we didn't. I think AS Exclusive is some if the best value out there.
