For those of you that have well established routes, how many chances will you give a store before concluding that it's not worth the trip? In my very limited experience, I suspect that there are 3 types of stores: those that have garbage consistently, those that produce a good find on very rare occasions, and those that have good finds on somewhat of a regular basis. I'd imagine that it would take consistent visits over an extended period of time in order to distinguish between these 3 categories.

depends how far away from my current location the store is, but i am usually able to make an initial assumption on the first visit

for GW/Savers/Sally's it is impossible to make this distinction based on their distribution schemes

in closing, almost all thrift stores are capable of producing something, depending on your standards and time constraints

I remember a store I had written off almost completely, because it's close to downtown and has a constant stream of hipsters going in and out of it. A month ago I was driving by, on a Sunday evening, and decided to stop in. I found a Brioni suit and a Zegna suit. I've since found Lanvin, Prada, Borrelli and Grenson there. It's now a regular stop, partly because it's now on my route home from work.

My point is, I think it's never wise to stop going to a store completely because you don't find anything good. I've stopped going to stores because of annoying practices such as hanging pants by the waist, but never because of a dry spell.

Sweet Vintage (OLD) Kersey Wool Bridge Coat (Long Pea Coat)
Size 36-38 depending on button location. Looks to have been originally a 36, but the buttons were moved over about 2 inches (currently 20" P2P)
Super Heavy, amazing quality
3 Button Center Vent, Fully lined and canvassed
Hand warmer pockets with adjacent reach through pockets.
One extra small flap opening on the left side...I am assuming for a sword or something.
Detachable Throat Latch which stores inside the jacket
Hand Stitching all over the place.

Those are camera spots, not spots in the wool.

Out of a 65-75 regular store schedule there are very few stores that I have crossed of my list. I may visit them less often, but almost never completely give up on them. In fact there is only one store I will not visit anymore...because there prices are insane for everything (probably due to a complete re-model). Even still...I will probably give them a few months and then give in to the temptation.

Even the junkiest store on my loop yielded my first Hermes tie.

Broke my nothing steak yesterday with two pair of shoes. Weekends haven't been bad over the summer, but yesterday the stores were crowded. I was ready to cut my circuit short, but decided to make just one more stop. Happily the gal was refilling the shoe racks just as I walked in, so I had first grab at these two:

I'm assuming 115G = 11.5G UK, so 12E to 12.5E US, right?
and

The BB/Peal are C&J, correct?
(Both are available.)

Yes, probably a 12E on the first. On the 2nd... are there nails in the heel? Could be either C&J or Sargent. Either way very nice find.

Looks like C&J to me, they both probably fit around a 12.5 US... if I had to guess

They probably are C&J, but the ones C&J makes for Brook Brothers are sized for the US market. So, they are 12 Ds.

Figured I would come back witha few of these....Available

Those silver knots are just like a pair I have...one of my favorites.

Fall baseball has started, stopped at GW on Sat after umping a couple of games, 1/2 off day, picked up a grail find for coffee aficionados, made in Holland, very lightly used, fired it up Sunday morning, makes a great cup of coffee. $13......
Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer :

Whoa! Awesome pull. I'm super jealous. Best coffee find I've ever had was a La Pavoni Europiccola lever espresso machine for $20. It's actually still sitting in my basement waiting on me to find someone to refurbish it.

65-75? How many of them do you visit each week? I go to between 5-10 stores a week, and I thought that was a lot.

Anybody have any suggestions on what to wear to a Prince concert? I'm afraid I haven't come across any purple leather onezies lately.
shog[1].gif

Prince is probably the 2nd best show i've been to. 1) george clinton 2) prince 3) slayer./simon posford

I'd rock some loud pants w/ normal constraints on everything else. PS I remember seeing lavender "gator" shoes when I saw prince, also blue shoes w/ red pants lol

+1, although I suspect that Grendel and I are basing our sizing on the same pair of Churches.

Maybe, but a good, experienced pair of eyes can turn type 1 into a type 2.

I know because Mainy once came to my town and pulled some decent items from stores I'd basically written off. Still not really worth going there for me - I don't have his knowledge, eyes, or patience.

I dont think I have ever sent anything registered.

Registered is tracked at every step of the way. That with a return reciept is what law firms use with sensitive stuff where they want to have absolute proof something was received. If you're sending something valuable or sensitive, that's the way to go.

Registered mail with return receipt is probably the best option for your situation. That receipt with the address and a signature on it would be enough in court, and if they refuse to sign, the post office will not deliver.

Must....resist......on another note, when I was still reading through this entire thread last year, but had yet to contribute, I picked up this awesome made in the USA PRL tweed windowpane suit. It was actually the first jacket I reunited with the trousers. I totally forgot about it until I was digging up my tweedish stuff to post on the bay. I just got it back from the tailors today, finally. The jacket fits spot on but I had the pants tapered and hemmed with a 2 inch cuff put on just for ***** and giggles. Its hard to tell in the pictures but the windowpane is green and red.
