The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 3056

Just= joined the forum after reading through 100 pages or so of this thread. Hey guys! thumbs-up.gif Pretty new to thrifting nicer clothes. Here's my haul from tonight.

Shirts from Express and Banana Republic. Made in Detroit camo Carhartt jacket. Valentino and Givenchy ties. All for me except the Valentino tie that I snagged for a buddy.

Then I went to another store and found this beautiful RL tie. This is a lesser label, correct? I really don't mind since I'll be wearing it. It was 99 cents, and I love it. Also, these Allen Edmonds Glasgow loafers. They're size 8.5 and brown. Is anyone on here interested in them? Or with a little fixing up what do you experts think they could do on eBay? I wear a size 18 but I couldn't leave AEs alone. Details on them below!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Found myself a navy blazer today (fits better than my old one). Only trouble is that it has Royal Navy buttons, and I don't qualify.

So, two questions: first, anyone want a set of royal navy marines brass buttons? 2 large, 8 small. Second, anyone know a good place to find some interesting new ones for a reasonable price?

Edit: Royal Marines, not Royal Navy.

As for new ones, I always go to a thrift stores and find a jacket with nice buttons and cannibalize it

I was hoping to find a pattern with something interesting rather than the same old generic anchors or shields. I tried looking for a set of Cthulhu buttons, but they only seem to exist in 1 inch. Something along those lines.

Get them from your old one - unless your old one is just boring anchors.

Some fucker cut all the buttons off multiple Samuelsohn's at a GW I hit up a few weekends back...and by that I mean they cut holes in the jacket to get the buttons off, instead of just using a seam ripper or whatever to cut the button threads...and then they donated it...and then Goodwill put it out for sale with these holes down the front and on the sleeves.

I don't know why people donate 100% unwearable items to GW.  Ink stained.  Giant holes in woolens.  Buttons ripped off / holes in shirts & blazers.  Shredded collars.

I dated a really wealthy chick for a few years and when I tried to toss out socks that developed a very worn spot or hole, she would chastise me, saying there are people who have no socks at all and would rather have socks with holes than none...and I tried to tell her it's better to go sockless than wear socks with holes, which is very uncomfortable...but she was clueless, never having been in that situation in her life.  Sigh.  First-world problems, right?

Eagle superimposed over anchor. I didn't bother getting an interesting set on that one, I kept the generic, but I would really feel awkward wearing a specific set that doesn't apply to me.

Uniqlo white OCBD. Size med, but seems a bit smaller than that. Brag-worthy?

Uniqlo is very cheap and goes on sale constantly. Mine cost $15 new.

Every once in a while a thrift will put out a bunch of sportcoats that havent sold for ages because they have some problem like a hole or stain or something. The price is usually $1 or $2. I call this occurrence: BUTTON HARVEST TIME. I buy the coats but don't redonate them. That would suck.

{rusty trombone} uhoh.gif

Edit: Good news, it was half price, so only a couple of dollars. I only had a few minutes, and my google search found a SF page devoted entirely to them. So I figured I had a shot. Oh well....

Hey, it is available spam[1].gif

Who had that question about Pal Zileri the other day -- that weird label and lining? I went looking for it but couldn't find it. Reason I ask is: I came across a very similar (possibly the same?) jacket today. Navy SC, unvented, loro piana cashmere. Passed, but thinking it was a mistake.

I had a PZ question a good bit ago and the label was Abito Privato.  It was concluded to be their MTM line. I would probably have picked it up.
